Expungement of Criminal Records
A criminal conviction - or in some cases, even a record of a criminal charge - can have lasting consequences, including loss of voting rights, ineligibility for federal benefits, or denial of applications for housing or employment. The adverse effects of a criminal conviction can last long past release from prison, probation, or parole.
House Bill 370, passed by the Legislature during the 2019 session, became effective January 1, 2020 and allows for the expungement (or sealing) of most criminal records. For those who have been convicted of a crime but have paid their debt to society, expunging records of a conviction can allow a fresh start.
Contact us today to schedule a consultation. Certain types of crimes - such as convictions for DWI or sex crimes - do not qualify for sealed records under the new law. We can help you evaluate whether the benefits of an expungement petition will be worth the cost, and help you with the process if you decide expungement is right for you.
